If you haven’t already, do have a read of my December in Ghana blog, I share what I got up to, where I went and some exciting tourist spots I hit up!
I guess this is kind of a part 2 to the blog, and in this post I share some tips I found useful that I will be following on my next trip to Ghana and hope others find useful if they are visiting.
Ghana is hot!
Like most tropical countries you visit, you are met with an immense amount of heat. That is Ghana. Especially around December times, the average temperature was 34-35.c each day and I definitely felt it as I was out most days. It’s easy to feel dehydrated and weak at times as the heat can take a toll on the body and productivity.
It is essential to take water with you wherever you go to stay hydrated and ?. You will feel the humidity, the heat and the effect!
Traffic
I think it is well known that December traffic in Ghana is like no other. If you haven’t seen a tweet, meme or rant about the traffic then you haven’t done your research on December in Ghana enough!.
I say this to say, plan way ahead of your journeys when setting off for town. You will encounter many delays on the way to your destination, be it the beach, a restaurant, the mall or a night out. Plan with the mindset of leaving 2 hours before your scheduled time to leave to ensure you make it on time. Keep hydrated on your journey and provide yourself with loads of entertainment. For your journey.
Staying safe
Like all holiday trips, staying safe is imperative to making your stay an enjoyable one. Ghana is a completely different environment, well for me anyway, if you are a regular there you will be used to this.
It’s important to take precautions before jetting off, these include necessary vaccinations and anti-malaria tablets which you can take daily or weekly. The water and food over there is quite different to what we have over in the UK. Let’s just say Imodium will become your best friend!
Take plenty of mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and water wherever you go and enjoy!
Booking ahead
The festive season in Ghana can be really jam packed (hence the traffic), so in addition to leaving ahead its important to book ahead for any activity you plan to do. Tourist spots and chill spots get booked up very quickly. Events and concerts sell out at a rapid rate, so to avoid any disappointments with missing out on all the fun, book ahead!
